January 6, 2015

Dear Honorable Senators and Representatives:

Today, Tuesday January 6, 2015, as you are seated again or sworn in for the first time, you embark as a member of the 114th United States Congress. We would like to say congratulations and good luck but please be mindful of your constitutional duty and responsibility. Perhaps you can start by reading Article I of the Constitution as a refresher on your enumerated powers.

We want you to listen to the will of the people who elected you and do what is right to restore this republic.

Here are seven actions we suggest you can do to let us know you hear our voices and are interested in repairing a fractured relationship with the grassroots conservative movement and avoid a primary challenge in 2016.

1. Vote against the current leadership

Speaker of the House John Boehner is a feckless leader who is more interested in defeating conservatives and lining the pockets of your party with big donations from the Chamber of Commerce and wealthy establishment donors than you are opposing President Obama’s agenda which is destroying our country.

His time has long passed and he must be defeated and replaced by a solid constitutional conservative (our choice?…Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert) who is willing to fight for our republic, take on the tough but solvable issues that are critical to our nation, and stand up to President Obama. The American people continue to be dissatisfied with your current leadership and they crave a new direction.

To the members of the House of Representatives, please do the country a favor and vote against Speaker Boehner for another term as House Speaker.

2. Vote to repeal ObamacareCapitol Building

Okay, we have heard it many times before and we get it. “President Obama will just veto any bill that comes his way that involves any major changes to his signature law.” But we don’t care. The American people don’t want this law that is destroying jobs (full time work is now 30 hours a week??), raising their premiums, and forcing people to search for a new doctor. Let Obama veto a repeal bill over and over but also let him own it.

Doing the right thing is more important than worrying about what someone else will think of your actions. The American people will thank you for standing by your convictions. Stop the circus and the rhetoric, and get down to serious business and repeal Obamacare immediately.

3. Vote to approve the Keystone Pipeline

Gas is $2.00 a gallon and even lower in several states. We like it that way and that is why you need to push through the Keystone Pipeline which will help create jobs and continue to make the United States more energy independent. We should not be held hostage by environmental groups who only oppose the pipeline because they want the U.S. to stop using fossil fuels. We say let the market decide what sources of energy should be used, not the government. Remember Solyndra? How did that work out?

4. Vote to defund executive amnesty

Members of the 114th Congress, please hold our lawless president accountable and prevent him from executing illegal amnesty. The Department of Health and Services, which houses immigration policy, should have its budget cut in terms of this illegal executive act. Any DHS bill that passes the House must be stripped of money that is appropriated towards amnesty. You blew all your political capital when you rammed the “Cromnibus” bill through Congress last month. Don’t make the same mistake the next time you have a chance to do the right thing.

5. Roll back Obama’s destructive environmental policies

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, you said that you are angry over how the Environmental Protection Agency is treating your state of Kentucky’s coal industry with its new regulations. Great, but actions are louder than words, senator. You need to defund any bill that appropriates money for the EPA that implements these industry-killing regulations.

6. Reform the Tax Code

Ladies and gentlemen, you need to implement the flat tax. The IRS is too big with too much authority as we have seen when President Obama used the rogue agency to target conservative groups. The American people have no clue how to navigate through the tax code. We suggest that you look into Steve Forbes’ 17% flat tax idea which we endorse.

And finally and most importantly…

7. Stop attacking conservatives

For those outstanding constitutional conservatives in Congress, this is not about you.

But for those of you in the leadership and the establishment flock, conservatives in Congress and the tens of millions of grassroots conservative Americans are not the enemy so stop attacking us. Stop laying blame at our feet for defeats at the ballot box when your hand-picked, moderate candidates lose up and down the ballot, especially at the top!

The real political enemy is across the aisle from you and at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Why do you always forget that?

You must remember who elevated you to your leadership positions. It was us, the grassroots conservative movement who helped you win landslide midterm elections in 2010 and 2014.

As for 2012, you said only Mitt Romney could defeat President Obama. Care to apologize?

The next time you start pointing your finger at us, remember that three fingers are pointing back at you.

If you want to keep your majorities in the Senate and House and have a legitimate chance to win the White House in 2016, you better start shoring up your relationship with us and start listening to what we have to say. You may think you can win elections or a presidential nomination (ahem…Jeb Bush) without the conservative base, but we have history on our side. If you look back into that history, you won’t be able to watch video of a President Mitt Romney State of the Union Speech, or read a transcript of an inaugural speech by President John McCain, or debate the legacy of President George H.W. Bush’s second term, or read about Bob Dole’s presidential foreign policy decisions, or watch archival video on Youtube of a celebration of President Gerald Ford’s re-election victory.

But what you will see and can read about is President Ronald Wilson Reagan. An unabashed principled conservative who won two massive landslides.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We will be monitoring your votes and keeping track of them for 2016.

Best of luck on what should be an interesting political roller coaster ride.

Sincerely,

Conservative First PAC and the grassroots movement
