Senator Mitt Romney is not a person of conviction thus becoming yet another typical Republican politician who sticks his finger in the air to check what direction the fake political winds blow.
Well it didn’t take very long for Senator Mitt Romney to cross the aisle.
Yesterday, the first term senator from Utah, along with five other liberal Republicans, voted with the Democrats to advance a continuing resolution (CR) which did not include President Trump’s request of $5.7B to build the wall along the southern border. The resolution would have completely reopened the government and funded it through February 8th while leadership continued its talks on how best to “secure the border.”
Luckily, the measure failed to achieve the necessary 60 vote threshold to break the filibuster.
Mitt Romney becomes the latest GOP senator to seek approval from the establishment and the media by compromising with the left. Think McCain, Flake, Corker, Murkowski, Collins, Alexander, etc. The list is far too long.
None of this is surprising though.
His true colors have long been there.
Once elected, the media and the Never Trumpers began to heap praise on Romney as the one who could take on the president and become the new face of the anti-Trump swamp.
On cue, Mitt Romney signaled on January 1st of this year what kind of senator he would be when he wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post which stated that President Trump’s “conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions last month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office.”
Sen. Romney will not be an ally of President Trump regardless of those faint words of praise in the op-ed. His vote in the U.S. Senate yesterday was the first of many defections to the left yet to come.
The senator is not a person of conviction thus becoming yet another typical politician who sticks his finger in the air to check what direction the fake political winds blow. With being anti-Trump the quickest and surest way to adoration by the establishment and the media, the oval office-jealous Romney knows which course to navigate.
That direction was to call for an end to the government shutdown without any border wall funding and try to make President Trump look bad in the eyes of his base.
True colors.
Like 2012 presidential candidate Romney before, Senator Romney also fails to grasp the issues that Americans in general, and conservatives in particular, care most about. On the other hand, President Trump is a man of conviction and recognizes the humanitarian crisis at the southern border while displaying true leadership and resolve.
Now who has failed to rise to the mantle of the office, Sen. Romney?
Hmm?
It was so disappointing to see the people of Utah, who elected the great constitutional conservative Mike Lee in 2010 and 2016, send a liberal Republican to the U.S. Senate, especially after a golden opportunity to seat another solid conservative presented itself with the retirement of moderate Orrin Hatch.
Regardless, it is going to be a long six years with Senator Mitt Romney siding with the Democrats on a variety of issues and showing up on every political talk show slamming President Trump and conservatives.
Get used to it, yesterday was only the beginning.
