FIRST & FINAL Thoughts On the Week That Was…

Red scroll pen on white no textFIRST   Meet Karl Rove, the man who runs the Republican Party. Now, he may not officially run the party, but make no mistake, he and his American Crossroads Super PAC are having an unfortunate impact on U.S. politics and the GOP in particular.

Karl Rove

This past Sunday, speaking with host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday”, the former George W. Bush advisor, when asked about the recent tragic church shooting in Charlestown, SC., said that gun violence will continue until the American people finally say enough and have the 2nd Amendment repealed.

Regardless of his intentions for making such a statement, why does Karl Rove continue to be given platforms to utter this nonsense?

The political discourse of our nation would be better served if fresh, new voices were given airtime to offer up the political analysis of the day, not the man who was the architect of the 2006 mid-term election debacle which threw both chambers of Congress back into Democratic control.

With his whiteboard and penchant for disparaging conservatives, it is sad to see that Mr. Rove has become a caricature of himself.

It is way past time to repeal Karl Rove from politics.

Red scroll pen on white no text   Speaker of the House John Boehner has officially, at least in our minds, become “The Dictator of the House”. He is punishing conservatives who dare to vote against the GOP leadership and the Dictator has finally had enough. He is taking names and handing out punishment.

“The Dictator of the House”

Just ask Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District. This week he was removed from his subcommittee chairmanship because he refused to toe the party line and vote in lock-step with the GOP leadership on the Obamatrade provision. Though he was reinstated on Friday, this has become a bad precedent in Congress’ lower chamber that should irate conservatives all across the nation.

It all started last week after 34 conservative members of the House voted “no” on a procedural matter concerning the president’s fast-track trade deal.  This is not the first time “The Dictator of the House” and his minions have handed out punishment for bucking leadership. In early January of this year, Boehner handed out walking papers to some of those members who voted against his speakership. They were removed from certain committees.

Perhaps this is typical D.C. party squabbling inside the halls of Congress. We think it’s more than that. Our view is that the Speaker is punishing certain members of his party for being conservative.

Plain and simple.

Since Boehner is not a conservative, he needs to rid conservative members from having an effective voice inside the House. The more moderate and establishment flock in the House, the easier it is to get the Chamber of Commerce’s progressive-lite agenda passed.

What is needed now, more than ever, is for grassroots to continue to send constitutional conservatives to Washington and outnumber the likes of Speaker Boehner, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

The fate of our republic is at stake.

Red scroll pen on white no text   A new Monmouth University poll this week shows that New  Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s approval rating is just 30%. That’s not exactly the news you want to hear if you are about to launch your candidacy for the presidency of the United States, which is scheduled for next week. Considering the economic news that has been coming out recently concerning The Garden State, this is not much of a surprise.

During Gov. Christie’s tenure, New Jersey has seen its credit rating downgraded nine times by Moody’s. NINE TIMES! Even once is unacceptable for any governor let alone someone with national aspirations. Perhaps Gov. Christie should rethink his decision to face the national voters when even his state constituents think so low of him.

For our analysis on Gov. Christie’s presidential ambitions, check it out here.

Red scroll pen on white no textFINAL   No matter how disappointed we may all be on the recent Supreme Court rulings, we must always remember that it is We The People who are in charge of the republic, even if it seems implausible. The judicial branch has been legislating from the bench for many years now as well as ignoring the will of the people. As strong believers in federalism and the 10th Amendment, we must take solace that we still revere the U.S. Constitution, even if nine men and women in black robes have neglected their duty to uphold it.
