With the sudden announcement that Representative Devin Nunes will be retiring from Congress at the end of this month, the race to become the chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee is heating up.
Current ranking member of the Ways and Means committee, Rep. Kevin Brady, announced back in April that this term in Congress would be his last. Most pundits assumed that Rep. Nunes, currently #2 on the committee, would take over. But with the stunning news of his retirement, the jockeying has begun to lead the mighty committee that has considerable economic influence on policies such as health care, Social Security, taxes, trade, etc.
According to Roll Call, Reps. Vern Buchanan of Florida’s 16th Congressional District and Adrian Smith of Nebraska’s 3rd are both running for the position. Neither man is well-known outside their home districts or the swamp also known as Washington D.C. Besides their low profiles, their Conservative First Index (CFI) scores are 49 and 60 respectively. Not exactly stellar to say the least for either man to lead the committee that will steer tax policy and other vital economic issues in the coming years should the GOP take back the House in ’22.
The manner in which Rep. Vern Buchanan is promoting his bonafides is what we find most troubling. In the Roll Call article, the 8th term congressman is reminding his fellow Republican colleagues that he will “work with Democrats” and that those who know him know he will “work in a bi-partisan way.”
Seriously?? Who came up with this marketing strategy?
The last thing conservatives want is a member of Congress crossing the aisle and working with the most radical group of politicians we have seen in generations. Is this how we win elections? Is bi-partisanship the winning strategy to correcting all the policies that have done major damage to our great republic the past 10-15 years? High inflation? Government vaccine mandates? Teaching Critical Race Theory in our schools? Defunding the police? Rising crime and murders across our cities?
Those policies are a direct-result from having Marxists in charge and the GOP is failing to earnestly fight back. Members of Congress like Vern Buchanan selling themselves as bi-partisan and willing to work with those members of Congress who want to destroy this nation is exactly why we are in this predicament in the first place.
We need leaders who will fight for the American people. Elected officials who love this country and want to preserve its ideals and principles.
We don’t need go-along-to-get-along politicians like Vern Buchanan. He may be a fine person. But this isn’t about being nice and be applauded for seeing both sides of an issue. Our nation’s fabric is being ripped apart by the left and now is the time to resist that destruction. Now is not the time to work with those on the other side which continues to push the Russian collusion hoax.
Tell us Vern, what exactly do you have in common with your “friends” on the left?
To our patriots in the House of Representatives like Gaetz, Gohmert, Boebert, Taylor-Greene, Roy, and others, we say vote no to Vern Buchanan for Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Should the GOP take back the House in 2022, the member of Congress who leads this committee should be a strong constitutional conservative willing to push back the radicals.
Not work with them.
