FIRST & FINAL Thoughts On The Week That Was…
FIRST Today is Armed Forces Day. We salute those who are currently serving and those who have served our great country and say…thank you. We are indebted to you for your sacrifice and commitment in making sure our republic remains safe.
On Tuesday, Moody’s downgraded Chicago’s credit rating to junk status. Another big city is now in the economic ash heap due to failed liberal policies that have been implemented for generations.
Whether it is Detroit (bankruptcy), Baltimore (riots that festered from years of lack of leadership, lack of jobs, and lack of economic growth among other things), or now Chicago, the citizens of these metropolises vote for the same political party year after year and the results are predictable and eventually quite ugly.
And now that Chicago’s credit rating is considered junk, it’s less likely that investments are going to be made into their bonds or the city will be forced to offer obscene interest rates to investors. Either way, the public pension funds have created this situation and the outlook is bleak at best.
How to fix it? The usual liberal playbook: raise taxes even more or ask and receive a federal bailout making the responsible citizens of Texas or Ohio pay for the damage liberals in Chicago and Illinois have caused.
Chicago is becoming the “next Detroit” and will suffer a similar fate as the Motor City if drastic changes aren’t made soon.
We certainly don’t expect the consequences of these liberal policies to alter the landscape but we sure wish the people of these cities would wake up and realize that liberalism, by design, creates the despair they continue to live in and rail against.
Thousands of miles away in a country considered to be the “home of Western civilization”, the entire nation is suffering a dire economic fate due to a public sector pension crisis.
Its name is Greece.
When millions of conservative Americans went into the voting booth last November, the idea of the Senate leadership working closely with President Obama was certainly not on their minds. In fact, they resoundingly rejected the president’s destructive policies by voting in nine new Republican U.S. senators, thus giving control of the upper chamber of Congress to the GOP. They wanted to change the direction our country was heading.
And yet, six months later, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is playing political footsie with the president.
The Kentucky Senator boasted to the media this week that he and President Barack Obama are the new “odd couple” because they have been working closely together lately. Also, the majority leader said that Mr. Obama sends him handwritten thank you notes like the one he received after Sen. McConnell and nine other Republicans voted to confirm Loretta Lynch last month. This is the same Ms. Lynch who thought President Obama’s lawlessness on executive amnesty was “reasonable”.
Senator McConnell, you and the senate leadership/establishment are feckless.
Many conservative websites and organizations keep track of politicians’ conservative credentials and score them using different methods. Consistently across several of them, Senator McConnell scores in the very low range, especially for someone who is in the leadership.
So with that in mind, we have to ask this: how does someone like Mitch McConnell become the Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate?
Answer: the number of years in Washington D.C. The more a politician spends in D.C. the more he or she becomes part of the problem.
And that folks is why we must continue to defeat the likes of
Mr. McConnell and replace them with constitutional conservatives like Mike Lee or Ben Sasse who will restore our republic and serve the people, not a political party.
As for the handwritten notes from the president, if receiving one for celebrating the Constitution being ripped apart is something to be excited about, we would rather get one from the president of the Sarah Silverman fan club.
Meet one the left’s best friends.
GOP strategist Nicolle Wallace, one of the co-hosts of “The View” and former senior adviser to Senator John McCain during the 2008 presidential race, is once again showing her true colors as a political hack.
Ms. Wallace, you might recall, is infamous for consistently trashing Sarah Palin and has been since after the 2008 election in an apparent attempt to deflect from her failure in convincing voters that John McCain should have been president.
The latest incident of Ms. Wallace’s political hackery occurred this week when she advised 2016 presidential candidate Carly Fiorina to stop attacking Hillary Clinton. Why would anyone, let alone a 2016 presidential candidate, take the advice of someone who seems more interested in praising and offering advice to Jeb Bush, her former boss, or go on “The View” and charm the left by trashing conservatives?
It seems as though this “advice” to Ms. Fiorina may not be all that sincere and is more of a political ploy to help Mr. Bush. Regardless, she has to be considered one of the last pundits that anyone, other than Jeb Bush, should look to for advice.
Our suggestion to the entire 2016 presidential field: ignore Ms. Wallace and every other loser consultant/establishment pundit.
When someone on a daytime talk show like “The View” is being praised as being “the center” or “what Republicans used to be like”, that should tell you all you need to know about someone’s true colors.
Nicolle Wallace should start working FOR Hillary. At least she would be honest with herself.
Clinton political operative/hack George Stephanopoulos, disguising himself as a journalist on ABC News, has recused himself as moderator of next winter’s Republican 2016 presidential debate citing possible conflict of interest due to revelations that he donated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation the past three years. You think?
It’s really too bad.
We were really looking forward to this question from the Clinton apologist : “Candidate X, why do you want to ban all women from the workplace?”.
After moderating an ABC News 2012 presidential debate and asking Mitt Romney one of the most stupid and outrageous questions in debate history concerning whether states have the right to ban contraception, the Republican National Committee should refuse to have ABC News moderate any debate going forward. After all, who watches ABC News anyway?
Speaking of which….
Final ….Why do conservatives bother giving interviews to network news pundits and left wing media hacks like Mark Halperin? For many, many years, we have been asking this question and really don’t understand why conservatives agree to be skewered by liberal operatives disguised as journalists.
Recently, Senator Ted Cruz was interviewed by the aforementioned Mark Halperin and the Bloomberg Politics co-host asked the Texas Senator about his Cuban heritage and tried to get Mr. Cruz to answer questions in Spanish. It was a cringeworthy interview that drew rebuke from even hard leftists.
Mr. Halperin apologized to Sen. Cruz on Monday.
As you would expect, Mr. Cruz graciously accepted the apology and mentioned that it wasn’t necessary because the Senator didn’t feel it was malicious.
Okay fine.
But let us not forget who uses race to score political points: the left and its media.
If a conservative used race to be condescending to a politician, or anyone for that matter, all hell would break loose and the conservative would be fired.
For the left, it’s either cheered or an apology is issued and the story is quickly forgotten.
A double standard exists.
But we again ask why conservatives must grant interviews to those who are trying to destroy them.
