FIRST & FINAL thoughts of the week that was …

Rick Perry CPAC
Rick Perry

Red scroll pen on white no textFIRST This happened last week but it definitely needs to be mentioned. Rick Perry’s presumed presidential team has hired Austin Barbour to run the SuperPAC that will support the former Texas governor’s likely 2016 White House run. If the name of Barbour sounds familiar, it should. Austin is the brother of Henry Barbour and both men were involved in the race-baiting tactics last summer in Mississippi surrounding Senator Thad Cochran’s re-election bid against grassroots conservative challenger Chris McDaniel which turned the ugly side of politics even uglier. Jeffrey Lord of The American Spectator has a good article about this issue here. If Mr. Perry wants to be president, he might want to explain to grassroots conservatives, especially those in Mississippi, why he hired an entrench political operative like Austin Barbour whose recent tactics certainly won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Marco Rubio
Senator Marco Rubio

Red scroll pen on white no textSenator Marco Rubio hired another top 2012 campaign aide to Mitt Romney this week making it two high profile hires from Team Mitt, though the Florida senator’s team declined to comment on it officially. Rich Beeson, a top political consultant and a senior aide on the 2012 failed presidential campaign of Mitt Romney, was in charge of the failed ORCA, the get-out-the-vote data system that drew sharp criticism up and down the the chain of command. The Romney campaign voter turn-out operation in 2012 underperformed even John McCain’s tepid turnout four years earlier (setting aside the technical failure of ORCA, we contend that McCain’s 2008 campaign drew more voters because of Sarah Palin being on the ticket, certainly not the man at the top). Regardless, we are once again shaking our heads at the recycling of consultants that is so prominent in and around Washington D.C. Why are the consultants who lose elections getting hired over and over again? In order to win in 2016, we need an articulate, energetic, and unapologetic conservative who surrounds himself or herself with a fresh crop of consultants who can help win the White House and reverse the damage our country will have suffered for eight long years.

Red scroll pen on white no textTell us, once again, why we elected the Republicans into the majority last November? Four U.S. senators have come out and said they will vote to confirm the pro-amnesty advocate Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s Attorney General nominee. Even Senator John McCain…JOHN MCCAIN!!…says he will vote no. Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Orrin Hatch of Utah, and Senator Susan Collins have of Maine have decided to help the president execute his illegal executive orders. We don’t buy the argument of “she is better than Eric Holder”. The president is illegally issuing executive amnesty orders and the senate must use its constitutional duty to check the executive branch when it is clearly in violation of the law. All four of the senators are moderate, big establishment types who must be defeated when their terms are up. As a final thought, can we finally put to rest any notion that Senator Hatch is a conservative? He lost his conservative principles a long time ago.

Red scroll pen on white no textSpeaking of Senator Lindsey Graham, McCain’s  “illegitimate  son” is seriously considering throwing his hat in the ring for president in 2016. We welcome the senior senator from South Carolina into the race. The more moderate and establishment contenders in the race the better because they will hopefully split up that bloc of Republican voters and allow a true constitutional conservative to emerge, unlike in past years where the conservative vote was split and John McCain and Mitt Romney emerged from the field and we know how well that turned out.

Red scroll pen on white no textWe salute Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and the brave legislators for becoming the 25th right-to-work state in the union. It was a courageous and bold decision to help make the Badger state a more freer economic place to do business, a place where jobs are created, and help the citizens of the state have more career opportunities. Well done.

Hillary
Enough!

Red scroll pen on white no text Final… Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. Once again, Mrs. Clinton is in the news again…oh heck, we are not going to waste any more time on her.
